When
the JEWEL program was created, our goal was to find a way to reach young women
that was comfortable, nurturing and empowering; and at the same time consistent,
honest and not condescending.
Working with young people is often times challenging. Our children are
suffering in so many ways: abuse, neglect, miseducation, etc…
Our firm belief is that all children are precious; we call our
girls JEWELS for this very reason. The world is so complex, there
are so many people with ill intentions – specifically out to harm
children in any way they can. At the same time many people with good
intentions have no connection to the reality of working with children
of color. As such, we have developed a short questionnaire for potential
facilitators of the JEWEL program. The questions are intended to give
us an opportunity to take a closer look at potential facilitator's of
the program, as well as give potential facilitator's an idea of what
doing this kind of work entails.
